Therapy Services – How I Can Help You

I offer flexible, integrative counselling and psychotherapy for adults, which means I use a combination of methods to help you.  Whatever you’re facing, therapy provides a confidential space to explore what’s really troubling you, or perhaps to share dificult, often unvoiced feelings.  We can work towards positive change together.

Each person’s experience is unique, so I tailor my approach to meet your individual needs.  I draw on a range of evidence-based methods including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Person-Centred Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Schema Therapy.

Sessions are collaborative; I will listen with no-judgment and accept you as you are.  Together we can focus upon helping you gain greater understanding of yourself and your circumstances, depending upon your individual needs.

Face-to-Face Counselling

I offer in-person counselling sessions at comfortable locations across Derbyshire, including Matlock, Bakewell and Crich.  These sessions provide a safe, private space where you can speak openly without fear of judgment.

Face-to-face therapy works well for people who value the containment and focus of a traditional counselling room. It allows for deeper non-verbal communication and can feel particularly supportive when working through difficult emotions or past trauma.

Sessions last 60 minutes and are available during weekdays, with evening and Saturday morning appointments offered where possible.  Please enquire about availability.

Cost: £60 per 60-minute session.  If you book/pay for a block of 4 sessions together, the prices is £220.

Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk & Talk therapy offers a different way of engaging with the therapeutic process. Instead of sitting in a room, we meet outdoors and walk together on a carefully selected, local Derbyshire route.  All locations are fully risk-assessed for safety and accessibility.

Many people find that being outdoors, moving when surrounded by nature, helps them feel more relaxed and open to therapeutic conversation, an experience backed by growing evidence.  Walking side-by-side can ease the intensity of direct eye contact and make difficult conversations feel more manageable.  It also offers the physical and mental health benefits of being in nature and taking gentle exercise, with the option of working more creatively if wanted.

This approach can be particularly helpful for people who feel restless indoors, those who find traditional therapy settings intimidating, or anyone who simply prefers to be outside.  It’s also suitable for younger clients who may struggle to sit still for long periods.

Cost: £60 per 60-minute session.  If you book/pay for a block of 4 sessions together, the prices is £220.

Online and Telephone Therapy

I also offer secure online therapy via zoom (video call), as well as telephone counselling for those who prefer it. These options provide flexibility for people with busy schedules, mobility difficulties, or those who live further afield.

Online and telephone therapy can be just as effective as face-to-face sessions, offering the same level of confidentiality, professionalism, and care. Sessions are conducted using a secure, encrypted platform (Zoom) in line with BACP guidelines.  I have completed specialised training in Online and Telephone counselling, ensuring I work to a high level of professionalism.

Cost: £60 per 60-minute session. If you book/pay for a block of 4 sessions together, the prices is £220.

How Therapy Works

Therapy begins with a free 15-minute telephone consultation. This is an opportunity for us to briefly talk about what’s brought you to therapy, for you to ask any questions, and for us both to decide whether we’re a good fit. There’s no pressure or obligation.

If we agree to work together, we’ll arrange an initial session. During this first meeting, we’ll explore what you’re hoping to achieve, discuss how therapy works, and begin to build a therapeutic relationship based on trust and respect.

As we continue, we’ll work collaboratively to set realistic goals that reflect what matters to you. Therapy is not a quick fix, but a process of gradual understanding and change. We’ll review your progress regularly and adjust our approach as needed.

Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly sessions, though this can be flexible depending on your circumstances. Some people benefit from short-term work focused on a specific issue, while others find longer-term therapy more helpful for deeper exploration.
